Some terminals collect three types of time-based charges for the containers in their yard: Storage, Power, and Line Storage. You pay the Storage and Power charges to the terminal for using the yard space, electricity, and associated services. You pay the Line Storage charges to the container operator for the extended use of the container. Since each type of time-based event can have different rules, such as start day, end day, and number of free days, and different tier rates, N4 and N4 Billing support three independent time-based service event types:
STORAGE
REEFER
LINE_STORAGE
All these events are recorded and maintained in the Chargeable Unit Events view (on page 1) in N4.
N4 does not create the LINE_STORAGE event by default. To record and use Line Storage at your site, you must set the INVBILLING016 (BILLING_CREATE_LINE_STORAGE) (on page 1) configuration setting as true.
To use line storage for your site, you must:
Set INVBILLING016 (on page 1) configuration setting as true.
Define the Line Storage rule types.
You can use the Storage Rule Types view (on page 1) to view, add, edit, and delete line storage rule types.
Define the Line Storage rules for individual line operators.
You can use the Line Storage Rules tab in the Line Operator form to define the line storage rule for the selected line operator.
Include the RejectContainerLineStorageOwed business task in your gate configuration to stop the delivery of a container if line storage charges are owed. This also applies to break bulk cargo.
Notes
Similar to STORAGE event, you can record guarantees and use the Update Storage form to update details, such as the Guarantee Party, Guarantee Thru Day, and Paid Thru Day for the line storage events.
N4 includes the Guarantees for LINE_STORAGE events with the other Guarantees for a unit when checking whether an OAC customer has exceeded their OAC per unit Guarantee limit.
If you use N4 Billing, you can use the existing Invoice Classes with an Invoice Type that includes the LINE_STORAGE as the Event Type to bill the line storage charges.
